Chrysler to offer wireless charging for smartphones

Chrysler to offer wireless charging for smartphones While many carmakers are focusing on wireless technology to charge the vehicles of the future, Chrysler is set to offer it for charging in smartphones.

As part of its Mopar division (logo, pictured), it will introduce in-vehicle wireless charging for portable devices – starting with the 2013 Dodge Dart model.

A power bin will be integrated into the vehicle: it will measure just 8.27inches by 9.5inches by 3.25inches. It can be installed in front of the centre console and has a built-in charging grid that is activated when the customer places in his/her battery-powered device. The unit is then charged when the vehicle is started.

The in-vehicle wireless charging from Mopar will be available for less than $200 plus installation.
