Besides recently announcing the i8 Spyder, the Munich based automaker has just unveiled a drop top version of the M6, (shown in coupe form in Geneva last month). In terms of specs, the roofless version essentially mirrors its tin top counterpart.
It’s got the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood, cranking out 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, it’s got the 7-speed dual clutch transmission with Drive Logic and an active rear differential that can automatically adjust from fully open to fully locked, enabling the back tires to provide the maximum amount of traction depending on the road conditions.
Like the M6 coupe, the Cabrio will be offered with optional carbon ceramic brakes (the fronts are a massive 16.1-inches in diameter, the rears 15.6-inches), which requires a 20-inch wheel and tire package in order to clear the monster anchors.
Other cool features include the M DCT shifter, enabling drivers to program the car’s suspension, steering and throttle/ transmission shift response for specific conditions and even steering wheel mounted M buttons, that allow for pre-set dynamic calibrations.
Weighing slightly more than the coupe, the M6 Cabrio nonetheless promises to be a stellar performer. Considering that maximum torque is available at just 1,500 rpm, BMW says it can scurry from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds (the coupe reportedly does it in 4.2), though top speed (like the coupe) is electronically limited to 155 mph.
